Thank you for the rampant love: the likes, the reblogs and the watches have astounded me. Re: the watches - I’m so flattered that you’re interested in my stumbling about in spandex. I must warn that, as is the nature of cosplay, I will go from fandom to fandom; once I get uninteresting to you, please drop me without hesitation! Perhaps I will bumble into one of your tracked tags sometime.

Exhibit 1&2: My ex-Alfred/Ikol/now-Leah? found my Loki draft and to-do list; thought it’d be interesting to post. I did a draft to consolidate how my costume would look like (a mash-up of Ferry’s and Braithwaite’s Loki) and in the end I changed how I did the hood (no zip; worried about gapping & spandex would stretch) and belt. My favourite bit, however, is the elucidatory instructions on my to-do list: “BUY CLOTH. SEW IT!” So specific. So helpful.
Exhibit 3: Actually finished the balaclava (notice I misspelt it as a Central Asian pastry in my to-do, haha) within the week after STGCC; not much luck on the helm though since I’ve only got a tiny strand of that (4-6 year old) gold thread left. DILEMMA.
Exhibit 4: The IF as mentioned in Exhibit 2 was Ultimate Spiderman’s Iron Fist, which in the end did not share golds with Loki; instead, I ended up with these 70s action figure colours. Definitely the best green by far locally, even though it’s too bright…but then again, I am also 5 feet tall, so I guess 70s action figure colours won’t hurt me too much (more). Sorry Danny.

Bob the styrofoam head makes a decent Iron Fist! All this while I’d been working with a more strawberry-blonde wig dredged up from the recesses of my wig collection, and just today found that a dusty one meant for something else ages ago was more conducive in colour and hair distribution. Do I love Danny enough to cut this wig for him? I think so. In the meantime, still no proper fabric yet, but once I get it, I’m ready to go.

PS: Young Justice TIM, guys. I couldn’t bring myself to even hope it until it happened proper. I’d have to buy acres of red and black spandex (again), but I am really, really tempted. We’ll see how he develops, but I’m really happy with him in the first ep. And it’d be great to do short-haired!Tim without elbow pads on his sleeves and gloves. Even if I still have loads of jungle-green spandex. And I still have two packs of blue contacts that expire in 2015. Dangit, USM. I know why you did it, but I still wish Danny’s eyes were blue for this very reason.

A ton of research on traditional tabi patterns all abandoned because it needs to be sewn into a bodysuit. My layered trial wasn’t completely right but I don’t want to waste the cloth and my time, so fingers crossed I’ll make it work on the suit, heh.
Using Tim’s mask pattern took a good chunk of work off the mask’s basics (thank you RR), but it took a while before finding out that interfacing was much preferable to a foam mask front. After a night of tweaking and, as always, great help from my (now) Jeryn who is very talented at characterising eye shapes (helped me nail Marcus To’s mask eyes), the mask pattern is final! The real deal should look a lot less like Spidey and much cleaner, though I’ll still be wishing I wasn’t too cheap for a good rotary cutter.

All I ever needed was an excuse. It could be a horribly lame one and I’d still do it. But there were never any, and I expected it to be a lifelong pipe dream.
…and then they made Heroes for Hire teenagers in the Ultimate Spiderman cartoon and so I’m working on a USM Iron Fist suit now. Dang, I can’t believe that I’m getting to cosplay Danny Rand! Danny is one of my absolute comic favourites and I’m so psyched that he’s in USM alongside Luke even if he’s getting stoned offscreen in Big Battle Scenes.

Featured is my highly sophisticated Tim sleeve/glove pattern and a prototype of the alterations I made from Tim’s bodysuit pattern for Danny’s. It’s made from the scraps of Tim’s cloak and Angry!BabbyTam’s clothes and coincidentally has Hyotei colours.

This’ll probably show up at STGCC 2012 [unless it’s horrifically expensive and lacking] - might anyone who’s coming be (interested in/doing) Ultimate Spiderman cosplay? (Especially Luke?) I’ll probably be the shortest Iron Fist ever but it’d be awesome if there was a bit of a group going on. Please shoot me an ask or something if you are! :)
